Hellen van Berkel | Pearl Earring Brooch

“Girl with a Pearl Earring” is a famous painting by Dutch master Johannes Vermeer, created between 1665 and 1667 and currently on display at the Mauritshuis Museum in The Hague. Rather than a traditional portrait, it is a “tronie,” representing an imaginary figure in exotic dress, featuring an oriental turban and a large pearl earring. Vermeer’s mastery of light is evident in the softness of the girl’s face and the glimmering pearl.

The artwork also includes 7 cm of hand-embroidered bead jewellery.
